When is it Time to Get a Disabled Lift? Part Nine

30 September 2011

This is because a heart attack on the stairs is of course even more serious than a heart attack anywhere else in the house because it can cause you to fall and then bang your head. Likewise if you have a heart attack anywhere you are actually more likely to have this happen on the stairs – the simple reason being that you are exerting yourself more and thus your heart is working harder as you try to pull yourself up. The unfortunate irony here is that the one place you really mustn't suffer an attack is the place you are most likely to.

Another reason that you need a disabled lift or wheelchair lift is that sometimes you will need to go up the stairs carrying something. This might be just a glass of water to drink by your bed side, it might be a hot water bottle, or it might be a book. In a perfect world you would probably want to carry even larger and more practical things up the stairs – such as a suitcase to take away with you or a whole breakfast.
