What are the costs associated with home lifts?

17 October 2011

For each household in which one of the occupants is physically impaired or elderly, the home lifts emerge as a critical necessity. The home lifts are design for facilitating the movements of people who are impaired by eliminating the necessity of climbing the stairs, an action impossible for those confided to wheelchairs and dangerous for those who employ a walker or a cane. The cost of the home lift is first of all dependent on the size and steepness of the staircase.  Furthermore, providing that the staircase does not go in a straight line, curvatures impact the complexity of the system.

The number of elevators required is also an important issue in determining the costs. While the situation is straight forward for two-story homes, the power consumption associated with several lifts in homes with more stories can entail modifying your entire electrical wiring. In addition, according to the legislation of your state of residence, adding a home lift may imply getting the permission of the city council or other authorities, which is an extra and never negligible expense. Lastly, since not all home lift manufacturers and suppliers provide free installation services, it is advisable to add the cost of hiring contractors to the budget allocated, at least as a precaution.
