Vertical Platform Lift

07 February 2011

Many buildings even public buildings struggle to put in lifts, partly due to cost and also due to lack of space. Many still assume that a lift will need machinery above it and a pit below it to install making them assume that it is not an option. Others assume that unless a building already has a lift shaft one can’t be added as well.
Vertical platform lifts though are very agile and many businesses will be able to install one with minimum disruption or need for building work.

Vertical Platform lifts can even be installed on the outside of buildings if people are really stuck for space and this can often minimise damage to listed buildings with windows often being converted to allow access.

You may assume that a vertical platform lift without a lift shaft to run in and without space for machinery above it or below it would only have a very small capacity but they can hold up to 4 people or 400 kg making them useful not only for transporting people but also for joint use as a goods or service lift as well.

The main advantage of course is that it allows disabled access to multiple floors in a building so is great for public buildings as well as workplaces and will benefit not only those with disabilities but those who, though not disabled, may struggle with stairs.
