Preventing accidents when using the escalators

19 January 2012

Like most people, you have at one time used an escalator to move up and down a complex, if not often. Nowadays, escalators have made moving from one building level to the other quite convenient and easier to a lot of deserving people all over the country. There are many advantages to using escalators to move up and down a building, but the main one is that you don’t have to wait for it to come down or up so that you can move to the next building’s level as it is continuously moving up and down.

Despite its many advantages, there are still some inherent dangers that can come about due to the usage of escalators. As such, users should always remember that they are riding in machinery that comes with thousands of small and big moving parts and that if handled carelessly or misused can cause a variety of accidents, both small and fatal. To avoid escalator accidents, users are required to abide by the standards set by the appropriate mechanical engineers body in the country governing their usage.

Mostly, these accidents are caused by such things as negligent actions by such people as the manufacturer, the building owner and sometimes third party maintenance crew, in addition to the user’s careless actions. However, if all safety measures are followed to the letter by everyone concerned, escalator accidents are quite preventable.
