Passenger Lift – Helping People Move Between Floors

09 December 2011

Passenger lifts

A passenger lift is something that is visible in all multistoried buildings. These are mechanically and electrically charged enclosures that help people move from one floor to another. In most of the passenger lifts, the capacity is restricted to 450 kilograms. However, in larger buildings, where the traffic of customers is higher, weight capacity can increase up to 2700 kilograms. Usually, weights are staggered with a differential of 230 kilograms or 500 lbs. The speed also varies between lifts but the standard elevator follows a speed of 1 m/s. speed is increased as per the height of the building. In buildings that are more than ten stories high, a speed of up to 10m/s is usually considered standard. However, for various practical purposes, the speed of the lift is fixed to about 2.5m/s.

Different types of passage elevators

There are different kinds of passenger elevators based on their usage patterns. While there are some that are meant to run between floors with a recess in each floor, there are others that are installed so as to provide direct access to pent houses or presidential suits from the ground floor. Lifts meant for residential places are also available. They are lower is power, speed and capacity.
