Information About An Inclined Wheelchair Stair Lift

21 March 2011

A stair lift can be an effective solution to get up and down stairs. There are various models of these chairs available in the market and nearly all of them require that individuals using one lift be able to lift themselves on and off it.

A chair stair lift operates by pulling a chair along a rack – generally by a rack and pinion system. There are two types of these chair lifts- straight and curved. A curved chair is much more expensive than a straight chair. The rack on which the chair moves is not mounted on the wall, instead it is fixed to the stair treads making the installation of the same somewhat straight forward.

For a person who is wheelchair bound and cannot lift himself on to a chair, these types of chair lifts is not appropriate. A wheelchair lift is better option for them. There are two types - vertical wheelchair lifts and inclined wheelchair stair lifts. Vertical ones are actually elevators to give the user access to floors. For many homes this is simply not an option, due to cost and space requirements. Inclined stair lifts is like conventional units. However, these models are much more problematic to install than a regular one.
