Inclined lifts – A perfect solution for physically impaired persons

26 November 2011

Public or commercial buildings are supposed to be accessible to all people including those with physical impairments. This is meant to improve the freedom of movement and independence for such individuals at all levels of a building. As a solution to this, lift manufacturers are making inclined lifts besides the traditional vertical lifts so as to transport passengers on wheelchairs up and down a flight of stairs. These types of elevators are useful in buildings with limited space of installing vertical platform lifts. They are simply built onto an existing staircase either on the wall or on the steps whether it’s indoors or outdoors.

Most wheelchair users find these lifts practical, safe and very secure as they provide a smooth ride and when it’s not in use, the seat is folded to leave the stairs free for others to use. They have several standard features including call stations on landing, safety bars, emergency lowering and etc. Each inclined lift should have a good lift capacity and should be well maintained and serviced to ensure that the operation is smooth and quiet. Before purchasing an inclined lift, one should seek professional advice on the operations and structural advice. This will eliminate future problems that could arise when a bad decision is made including jerking of the lift.
