Giving you freedom: Considering lift installation if you are disabled

07 February 2011

Not everyone who is disabled goes straight into a wheelchair and people with some conditions may only need them sometimes or for some things, if stairs do become an issue though you may need to consider getting lifts in your home. The alternative may be moving to bungalow or other single floored home but you may not want to leave your current home. Some people assume moving is the only option assuming that lifts will be too expensive or will be impossible to install in their homes this is often wrong however as there are many lift types and they are often smaller and cheaper than people think.

Through the floor lifts are a great idea where space is limited, they work with a trapdoor in the floor and when they are not on a floor the space is free for other use, they can carry a person with a wheelchair easily.

Other options include installing a vertical platform lift which looks much like a standard passenger lift but doesn’t have a pit below it or a space for machinery above it, it can also be added on the outside of a building if necessary to save space and can carry up to 400kg so you can easily move other items around using it a well.
