Getting to know the use of vertical platform lifts in buildings

26 November 2011

A large number of people find it difficult to use convectional lifts and stairs found in most private and public buildings. Among these people are children, the elderly, pregnant women, those with reduced mobility and the physically impaired. That is why modern regulations including the Disability Discrimination Act have made it mandatory for all commercial and private buildings to install lifts that accommodate all people and offer equal access to public services. Vertical platform lifts have as a result been made by various manufactures to satisfy the needs of such individuals.

Vertical platforms lifts are more preferred than the inclined lifts because they come with added advantages. Unlike the inclined models, these lifts are self contained and fully enclosed. However, both of them can either be installed inside or outside a building in places where there is limited space.  These lifts are easy to install and have several safety features including handrails, emergency stops, anti-slip flooring and under –platform sensors. These lifts are easy to use and have straight forward controls to offer reliability and outstanding quality of service. Some of them come with Braille controls for the visually impaired and remove controls. Vertical lifts are not restricted to public building only, rather one can also install in their homes to make life easier for family members with physical impairments.
