Does your Building need lifts?

07 February 2011

Even if you don’t legally need lifts for disabled access, perhaps because it would be too difficult or expensive to install them, you may still want to add them as they have many benefits you may not have considered.

Of course there is the importance, both moral and legal, or making sure people can access any public buildings including most places of work. From a business point of view if you interviewed for a role and the perfect candidate was in a wheelchair you could miss out as well. Even those who aren’t disabled may struggle with stairs, including existing staff and potential staff who may not choose to work for you if they would have to climb several flights of stairs several times a day.

There’s also the efficiency of staff, if they are having to march up and down stairs then they are wasting time, lifts are usually quicker and goods lifts and service lifts mean they don’t have to move at all and can send items up and down to colleagues without having to stop work.

In a warehouse or factory a goods lift can give you better use of mezzanine and other floors above the ground floor allowing you to move heavier items for work or storage and again saving staff time.
