Do you know the differences between commercial and residential elevators?

17 October 2011

Even though the residential and the commercial escalators present a wide array of similar characteristics, it is important to note that each has a series of distinguishing features. For instance, the elevators that are used in commercial buildings require special permits for installation and must be in accordance with the state codes.

Therefore, whilst the commercial buildings are obliged to have inclined lifts, a homeowner can install any type of escalator he finds suited for his needs. In addition, homeowners are not mandated by law to employ the services of escalator maintenance or inspections. However, it is advisable to regularly verify the functionality of your home elevator if you are using it on a constant basis.

The other distinctive attributes of commercial and residential escalators resides in the requirements on the doors and the fire service button. Except the lifts that are with limited use and limited access, all commercial escalators must include an automatic door opening and shutting system. Moreover, they also have to have a fireproof system that permits them to travel from one floor to another without endangering the passengers. However, although very useful, these specific features are not mandatory for homeowners and they can purchase any size and any type of escalator they want.
